Smut and challenge fics
Mar. 31st, 2004 11:51 pmMy Ficathon fic is almost done - and it's R-rated. I wrote something R-rated! Go me! Yes, I know all you hardcore NC-17 people are going to find that funny, but anything more descriptive than 'Fade to black' is a Big Step for me, okay? ;) Apart from the Five Things fic, which is kind of R-rated (but for violence rather than sex), this will be the first R fic I've ever written. I'm not claiming it's a good R-rated fic, but it's definitely an R-rated fic, so I'm pleased with myself.
Actually, though... where does the line get drawn between R and NC-17? (Not that I'm thinking this story has crossed that line, but it's not finished yet, and I'm curious besides. One day, maybe... ha, right.) I'm guessing that actual descriptions of body parts and so on would make a fic NC-17. I've also heard people say that if the entire reason for the fic is the sex, and it doesn't have a real plot outside that, then it's NC-17 by definition - which I'm less sure about.
Now it needs an ending (because I just don't know what to do with them, and I don't want one of those saccharine little "I wuv u!" conversations, and I want to try to fit it within canon as far as possible so the ending would hopefully be something which would fit in with what happens after the time this is set, and... wow, things were easier in the good old fade-to-black days). Then, maybe I can get started on a couple of the other ficathon challenges, which would be fun to write if a little intimidating because of a canonical blank slate. Or maybe I'll just sit around and feel pleased with myself for writing this one.
