I'm sitting here right now, trying to decide whether I should scold you for making me like not one but two characters I can usually barely tolerate. :P
Seriously, though, this is beautiful work. Spare and melancholy and very lovely in a gritty and realistic sort of way; exactly what I've come to expect from your writing. You handle Zack very well, right down to his nervous tics with his uniform, and Byron... is very Byron, without being too much the side of Byron that makes me want to claw my eyes out. All poetic allusions and philosophical questions.
