Yeah yeah yeah. It has been a while. I've really needed some fun distraction this week, so here we go.

There was a meme going round a while ago, to write a short short fic for every standard fic genre you could think of in the same fandom - like, 'in a sentence' or 'in 10 words'. I went for 'in a 100-word drabble', which seemed a bit more doable for those of us who tend towards 300-word sentences in the first place.

So, here are six of them. More following another time, maybe. Warnings for mild/implied sex and violence, nothing super-graphic.

AU: Valen is a prisoner. (outside canon but spoilery for early S2) )

First time: romance and flowers and heartfelt speeches. (S3/4) )

Hurt/comfort: another injured warrior. (S3 after 'Grey 17 Is Missing' )

Comedy: that's nothing new. (S1 after 'Legacies') )

UST: she wishes he wouldn't ask. (S2/3/4) )

Angst: Pesky things, prophecies. (S2) )
eye_of_a_cat: (Delenn)
Look! My fic-writing brain is not entirely rusty! Mostly rusty, yes, but it looks like some parts still turn.

Title: Deceptions
Setting: During S1, 'Legacies'
Characters: Delenn, Lennier, Neroon.
Rating: PG for bodysnatching.

Ficathon fic

Tuesday, 21 November 2006 13:27
For [livejournal.com profile] alicamel, for the Babylon 5 Rare Pairings Ficathon (and apologies again for the delay). The prompt was Zack/Byron, pre-series, angsty, without fluff, and perhaps with something about Zack’s backstory, and this got way longer than I’d planned it to but, well, just you try pulling off Zack/Byron in 750 words.

Title: Nostalgia Couldn't Take Care Of Its Own
Pairing: Zack/Byron, pre-series. (Admit it, you’re curious.)
Rating: R-ish, for sex, drugs and bureaucracy.
Spoilers: For Byron’s S5 episodes.
Disclaimer: All belongs to the Great Maker, and none belongs to me. Byron's line about ambition is from an Alexander Pope poem.

Some fanfic

Because it's far too hot to get any work done, I've spent the past few days re-reading about half an Internet worth of bookmarked fanfic. It reminded me that I still had these lying around unfinished from something I was trying a while ago. So, with some final dusting to get them up to shape: four fandoms, four ficlets, all beginning with the same line. Anna Sheridan, Simon and River Tam, Leia Organa, and, er, BSG weirdness. (I don't think anything here would be rated above PG.)

Z Minus (Babylon 5) )

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (Firefly) )

The End Of The World Was Long Ago (BSG) )

In Memoriam (Star Wars) )
I was going to ask someone else to pick one, but this fic has been digging claws into my head since I wrote it. So, here you go.

The story is ‘Valen’s Children’, which is here and here (two parts).

Cut for commentary and self-indulgence )

Oh, and:

Ask me what happens after the end of any of my stories, and I'll tell you. Or guess. Or, well, something.

B5 fic

Monday, 19 September 2005 00:33
As promised, with a BSG ficlet still to come.

Title: Missing
Rating: Um. PG?
Spoilers: up to and including Objects at Rest (S5).

Thesis chapter written (in draft form, anyway) and sent away to supervisor. (And apparently I can't pull off all-nighters any more, and collapse on the keyboard at around 3am. Hm. That's annoying.) I'll have to wait a few weeks to find out what my supervisor thinks of it, but it's possible that for the first time ever I'm actually on schedule with the PhD. This feels weird.

My brain was reluctant to get out of writing mode, so behold: three short ficlets, all about ink. (With apologies in advance for any grave and terrible canon mistakes, since my in-depth knowledge of Star Wars has evaporated long ago, leaving me with nothing but a couple of planet names and a vague feeling that I've got some kind of major issue with the New Jedi Order books.)

Conferences organised: zero one.

Living off caffeine and panic for a weekend still couldn't keep me from falling asleep the second I got home, so now it's way past midnight and I'm wide awake. I'll post about the conference itself once it's stopped feeling like a very bizarre figment of my imagination; for now, [livejournal.com profile] deborah_judge's fictional-characters-at-academic-conferences meme looks like a fun way to calm down )

As promised:

Lennier, religious angst, and gratuitous Easter imagery. Really gratuitous Easter imagery.

Also, cheating a bit on the word count. )

Short fic

Monday, 28 March 2005 10:53
Young Lennier story which I have owed [livejournal.com profile] kakodaimon for about sixteen years, or something close to that. But it's here and finished now, mostly thanks to an otherwise boring train journey and a notebook I forgot I was carrying. See what you think.

Archaeology )
In between trying to prepare a tutorial for a group who won't have done the reading (essays are due in this week) and don't much like poetry anyway, and working out what the weird clicking noise is in the kitchen.

Tales of War, 2 )
So, um, there was a fic I was working on ages ago that was an AU for Atonement and afterwards, which got put on indefinite hold after the first few chapters last year. Sorry to anyone who was reading it. It wasn't actually forgotten, but every time I tried to write the next chapter it wouldn't work; when I came back to it a couple of weeks ago, I changed the premise a little bit to see what would happen, and now it seems to be going okay. Well, see what you think. Still draft-ish for now.

Rating currently somewhere around PG, no specific warnings, Delenn, Sheridan, Lennier and Atonement stuff. (Chapter 2 done and will be posted later today/tomorrow.)

By my reckoning I have two hours in the next two days when I won't be at work or asleep, and the total time of tidying the house plus packing to go home plus obligatory frantic search for keys/wallet/camera/phone/shoes usually adds up to at least three. Little time left for messing about with LJ, anyway. So I'll just post this early.

[livejournal.com profile] deborah_judge, you wanted Delenn/Lennier?

Title: Sunlight
Disclaimer: Babylon 5, and everything on it, belongs to JMS
Rating: R
Note: Takes place during The Very Long Night of Londo Mollari, with apologies if I've messed up the chronology - my Season 5 videos have long since been lost to grainy static and a failure to write "DO NOT TAPE OVER THIS" clearly enough on the label.

Fic. Of a sort.

Wednesday, 1 December 2004 15:17
Just got back from a meeting with people from the administration side of the university. I'm organising a postgraduate conference next year, and this means talking to the non-academic departments to get things arranged. They greeted me and Co-Organiser #1 expecting puny students who could be charged a fortune for rooms and catering, and whose complaints could be dismissed with a wave and a sneer. They left cowed and broken. In the words of my co-organiser, when our fellow students eagerly demanded tales of Someone Finally Standing Up To Those Bastards At Catering - "Not really negotiating. More like... Bad Cop, Badder Cop." It was so much fun.

Anyway. I bear no responsibility for what lies beneath the cut, except to say that I'm under a lot of pressure and it was very late at night and, well, it's nearly Christmas.

You'd better watch out... )

Title: Valen's Children
Rating: PG-13, for violence
Disclaimer: All belongs to JMS and various networks.
Spoilers: For Legacies in S1, and Atonement in S4, plus minor ones for In The Beginning

Valen's Children, 1/2 )
Fireworks, still? The fifth of November was on Friday, people, be quiet now. (And I'm not at all ratty because I missed out on the treacle toffee this year, oh no.)

Spent the day with a friend I went to university with a few years ago, buying goldfish and making up campaign slogans for next year's election ("The Hell With Your Principles - Vote Labour!"). The goldfish are beautiful, all shiny reds and silvers and blues. After long debate, we named them Morden, Garibaldi, Neroon and Lennier, and they seem to be getting along well.

There's a WiP meme going around, which says: If you happen to be working on some creative writing project, fanfiction or NaNoWriMo or what have you, post exactly one sentence from each of your current work(s) in progress in your journal. It should probably be your favourite or most intriguing sentence so far, but what you choose is entirely your discretion. Mention the title (and genre) if you like, but don't mention anything else. Interpreting the 'exactly' as a 'vaguely', here's what I'm sort-of-kind-of working on now:

Those called to greatness as children do not see the world as we do. - Delenn fic.

But if you lie flat in the space between twisting footpaths, where no-one can see you and the long grasses tickle your chin, you can almost hear their voices. - young!Lennier fic.

She would not pray. She would not eat, or sleep; she watched the mountains with detached curiosity, as though her gaze alone could change them, and as though she would not care if it did. Twice he moved away to leave her alone with her grief, and twice her grip on his hand tightened, wordlessly reminding him of his place at her side. - AU-epic.

"Of course I knew." My companion's eyes are the dull black of a fog-filled night, of coal-dust and blood matted beneath a child's fingernails. "My associates and I don't keep secrets from each other. Besides, there's nothing new under - where are we, anyway? Tau Ceti?" - A Shadow agent, a Vorlon inquisitor, and no Minbari whatsoever, all walk into a bar...
There, Kako! Told you I could do it!

Part I is here. No warnings, really, unless the idea of alien relationships working differently bothers you, or you can't take huge doses of saccharine without an insulin syringe standing by.
