Of course it's not pre-tin-openers, how do you think tins existed without them? They'd left the tin-opener at home.

Three Men in a Boat is always going to be the funniest book I know. Connie Willis wrote a book which is sort of related called To Say Nothing of the Dog which comes a close second. I have read both far too many times.
