Dear Fic in a Box Writer
Thank you so much for writing for me! I have some overall likes and DNWs below, and then some fandom-specific preferences and prompts after that. Please only consider those prompts and so on as suggestions, though, and write whatever best calls to you! (Treats always welcome.)
Being Human: I love Mitchell, I love Annie, I would love anything from the very early days of them getting to know each other in particular although please consider that only a suggestion!, I am happy with tragic or lighthearted or anything between the two.
DS9: As with Babylon 5 I am fascinated by the worldbuilding and what life on a space station like this would be like; and I'm particularly fascinated by Kira and how seriously she takes her religion, her loyalty to her people, and her principles (and how she revisits these based on her experiences). But I do just love Jadzia Dax as well, and am fascinated by whatever kind of domestic life Dukat had going on.
Piranesi: The worldbuilding in the early part of the book was the most fascinating part for me and I would love anything that goes into more detail about the House, in any form at all. But I'd also be happy with a later something (fic, or journal, or interview, or something?) from Sarah Raphael's point of view.
DNWs and non-fandom-specific things I like:
General likes: Angst, complicated feelings, stories that dive into a character and what motivates them, questions of loyalty and of how the past affects the present, 5+1s, canon divergence, missing scenes, parenthood (prefer if it’s about the emotional feels of the adult characters rather than cute kid things, worldbuilding in fantasy/sci-fi fandoms, and established relationships being complicated. Happy with any degree of smut from ‘none at all’ to ‘E-rated’.

General DNWs: AUs other than canon divergence; omegaverse; traumatic birth or pregnancy loss; noncon as a major plot element (dubcon is fine); m/f dynamics portrayed with a heavy emphasis on smaller/shyer/less experienced/submissive woman and bigger/stronger/dominant man; underage; watersports and scat. For pairings that go against canon relationships, I usually like the canon relationship too and would prefer canon partners not be bashed or existing marriages split up (although canon-divergence where they don't get together/one dies is fine) - happy with open relationships, happy with angst-ridden infidelity.
Things often DNWed that I like and would be happy to see included: Infidelity, preferably in the sense of overlapping pairings and feelings for multiple people (not if it’s infidelity to get one ship out of the way); first- and second-person POV; epistolary or other non-strictly-narrative formats; ambiguous endings; pregnancy; sibling incest, if angsty; poly ships and open relationships (happy or tragic).
Fandoms:
Babylon 5:
Delenn solo or in any requested pairing - I adore her and her complicated principled devoted repentant-war-criminal ways. Would love to read fics exploring anything about how different characters see different parts of her, or how she views her history and her future. If it's in a post-s1 setting where Sheridan exists: I'm cool with infidelity or Minbari poly relationships or them not getting together in the first place, wherever you want to go, but please don't bash him - this man and his unbeatably sunny outlook single-handedly cured me of ship wars.
Anna Sheridan - should have got more screentime and I'd love to see any kind of sympathetic POV for her, either before or after the s3 finale reveal. Letters or journal or messages or memories, or just her view of events.
Worldbuilding: I'm particularly fascinated by anything about the Minbari, anything about EarthGov (or PsiCorps, or Night Watch, or whatever!) propaganda during President Clark's rule, or anything at all about life on the station.
Lord of the Rings: For all of these I'd be happy with anything drawing on or set at different points in the wider Tolkien legendarium, but I would also be absolutely fine with just LOTR-era or with no references to the wider canon. (I don't like some of the changes Peter Jackson made with the films, though, so if it's an area where films and books diverge, please go with the book version (with the exception of the cut scenes of Arwen fighting at Helm's Deep, which I would be 100% fine with!))
Things I'd love to see here: anything about life after the war, anything about hope in the face of despair, anything about everyday life for the dwarves (bonus points if it's about dwarf women and children!), people coming to terms with legends and myths or being legends and myths, people dealing with divided loyalties (especially the elves), anything about the legacy of war, especially with Faramir and anyone he's interacting with. For the elves, especially Amroth and Nimrodel and Mithrellas, I'm fascinated by how differently the Sindar and Silvan elves would see the world, their home, their place in it, anything about their culture or customs or what they've been through or what they want.
Rings of Power: For all of these I'd be happy with anything drawing on or set at different points in the wider Tolkien legendarium, but I would also be absolutely fine with just LOTR-era or with no references to the wider canon. (I don't like some of the changes Peter Jackson made with the films, though, so if it's an area where films and books diverge please go with the books).
Celebrimbor - at what point was he talking to Earendil, and what kind of relationship did they have? I would love to see that backstory!
Galadriel solo/in any pairing - I adore her. I would love anything that deals with how she thinks of her past, her loyalty to those she's lost, how much she feels she belongs - or doesn't - among her own people (I was really struck by how in the first episode of s1, she not only loses her soldiers but seems uncomfortable among the celebrations in Lindon too). I would love Galadriel/Miriel that touches on their joint troubled relationships with legacy and duty and family history, and what they've got in common. (One caveat: I like Celeborn, so while I'm absolutely fine with her in pairings with anyone else and with her having conflicted feelings about that, please don't actively bash him for the sake of another pairing.)
Elf soldiers in Ostirith or Galadriel's company - anything! Letters home? how do the Silvan soldiers in Ostirith feel about serving a Noldor king? how long has Thondir been trying to talk Galadriel into going home?
Silmarillion: I love all varieties of elf angst, elf culture and customs (I'm fascinated by Doriath in particular), and would generally be happy with anything and everything you want to write or draw or otherwise create in the nominated tags! I did intend to put some proper prompts in here but I ran out of time, so a scrappy version below. (Feel free to add in pretty much any ships alongside the nominated tags as long as they don't go against my DNWs, I am more than fine with multiple ships in the same story including overlapping ones)
- The Noldor being very surprised by Doriath (customs around sex and marriage and family, views on the Valar, or any customs and culture being unexpected to them)
- Avari version of any First or Second Age story being very very different to the one the Noldor or Sindar recorded;
- What on EARTH was going on in second-age Ost-in-Edhil? Every single version of it makes it sound like there's some incredibly complicated and drama-filled love quadrangle going on between Celebrimbor, Annatar, Galadriel and Celeborn in various combinations of all or some. Anything set here at all I would love; Celeborn/Celebrimbor would be wonderful;
- Celeborn: I love prince-of-Doriath Celeborn the best of all his origin stories (but I would not mind you writing a different one!), and I would love to read anything about him, maybe some kind of platonic or sexual relationship he has that doesn't make it to the history books for whatever reason; my headcanon is that he was rebelliousteenage drinking buddies with Luthien
- Any Noldor sibling incest: angst, pain, "only we understand each other", "we've broken so many other laws what's one more"
- Aredhel/Luthien - I feel like they'd have a lot in common and some similar experiences around living in a place of safety that feels like a place of imprisonment, and have their own ideas about what path to take; I think they'd find each other fascinating
- Ossë/Uinen - did Aule have to really talk her into going to get Osse? (and why was it Aule anyway?) did Osse take any convincing to return? Would love to read some exchange of letters between the two of them, or the two of them plus Aule and/or Sauron
- Celegorm/Dior/Nimloth - this could be dark or hilarious; either way would love to see Celegorm starting out thinking he's got the upper hand and slowly realising he's being played, or has developed Feelings, or is otherwise in over his head
- Finwe & any great-grandchild - goodness would they have a lot to talk about; imagine all that's been done for the family legacy by the generations in between them, and how they'd feel about it
- Indis/Miriel, with or without Finwe - let them have their own connection; would love to see anything about Miriel's feelings for anyone else expressed through her weaving or sewing as part of this (this doesn't have to mean embroidery as a request although that would be more than cool!, could just be part of the story);
- Feanor/Nerdanel - I like the idea of them writing each other letters that the other one will never see after he leaves Valinor; or something about statues and craft?
- Galadriel/Celeborn - tragedy or sweet or angsty or anything really; or I'm fine with their relationship being as open as you like in whatever sense you like; they have been married a long time, there must be all sorts of stories others don't know about them
- Elrond & Elros & Maedhros & Maglor - cannot get enough kidnap fic, will read anything ever (but pls no bashing of Elwing).
- Celebrimbor/Annatar - my absolute favourite take on this is anything with Sauron developing far more feelings than he planned to
- Maedhros/Fingon- maybe both their POVs on some previous incident and how differently it would look to them both, or some darker and messier "I'll let you/him do what you want to me because it's the closest I'll get to you" setup?
